SHOCKING! Sanjay Leela Bhansali Ghosted Rajeev Khandelwal For ‘Almost A Year’ Aften Signing Him For Chenab Gandhi? Actor Opens Up
Rajeev Khandelwal is one of the most sought-after celebrities in the Hindi entertainment industry. Having started the journey with television serials, he went on to make a mark for himself in Bollywood and now OTT platforms. He became a household name because of his portrayal of Sujal Garewal in Kahiin to Hoga, co-starring Amna Sharif and Rohit Bakshi. Over the years, he has juggled between all platforms and donned various hats. He recently opened up about the time he was ghosted by Sanjay Leela Bhansali after being casted in a project Chenab Gandhi alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Vidya Balan, which never took off.

During a recent chat with Siddharth Kannan, he recalled a past experience with Bhansali and revealed that the filmmaker made him wait for nearly a year for the film which never materialised. He went on to add how since he was bound by contract at the time, he wasn’t allowed to take up more projects. Shedding light on the project that was supposed to be directed by Vibhu Puri, he explained that while the film’s cancellation didn’t hurt him, the lack of transparent communication about it from the makers hurt him.

Quote by Indian Express, the 48-year-old actor said, “He signed me for a film, called Chenab Gandhi, and kept me around for nine months, almost a year. But the film never took off. Because I was bound by contract, I couldn’t do anything else either. As soon as this chapter ended, I did Sach Ka Saamna.”

The Left Right Left actor explained that after the film Aamir he wanted to do projects that had a life. If those projects didn’t work out he would move on with something else. The only issue he faced during that time was that “I was being kept in the dark.” Khandelwal shares that he moved on from the film without any complaints. However, despite being willing to invest around a year of his life for a film, at that time he felt “time waste ho raha hai mera, ek saal hogaya hai.”

Recalling Vibhu Puri’s words about the shelved project, Rajeev revealed that the director had reached out to Bhansali for an update, but “didn’t get a response.” The actor added, “It’s not like he said that he will keep me around for a year and ruin my career. I’m sure he didn’t have a vested interest, it wasn’t deliberate. It could’ve been funding, or any other reason, but he didn’t have an answer. I told him, ‘This is a crucial time for me’.”

On the work front, Rajeev Khandelwal was last seen in Emraan Hashmi starrer web-series Showtime.
